RDX 5 Setup Tutorial

Using the main window:

When first loading up, it will be in the top middle of your screen and look like this:

-Shift-Clicking on the bar at the top allows you to move it around

-Right-Clicking on that bar brings up a drop-down menu that allows you to load a certain boss fight. Each boss allows you to save independent setup preferences (more on that later) and will change “Default” to the name of the boss. If anyone in your raid is selecting the boss, the blue bar will turn into the boss’s health bar with a % indicator on the right.

Timer:

The button to the immediate right of the timer display is the button to start/stop/zero the timer. Left click to start/stop, shift-left-click to zero it.

Syncing

The next button looks like the recycle symbol, it handles syncing. If it’s blue, it means you will accept raid sync commands (It should almost always be blue).

-Shift-Clicking it toggles it between blue and white. Again, just keep it blue.

-Right-Clicking broadcasts the sync channel

-Shift-Right-Clicking brings up a box to set the sync channel

Announce to Raid:

This button is to the right of the sync button and looks like a speaker. It is NOT sound control. If it is yellow, you will announce boss timers in raid chat.

-Left-Clicking toggles it between white and yellow.

Save:

This is fairly tricky to explain so you’ll just have to get used to it, but basically it works like this: If it is green, it means you are using saved settings for that boss fight, white means you aren’t.

-Left clicking toggles it between white/green

-Right clicking reloads your UI (neat for installing in-game RDX patches)

Essentially you set your windows how you want them for a particular boss, then you press the green disk. Whenever you select that boss, it will load those settings. Turning it white again will restore global settings.

Tools/Setup Button:

This button brings up a drop-down menu separate into six categories. Most of the settings are configured here.

Tools:

-Master Reset: Removes all of your settings (including patches you have gotten in-game) and reloads your UI

-Reload UI: Self-explanatory

-Rehash: “Refreshes” the RDX 5 Windows

-Reset UI: Resets window positions to center of screen

Assists:

-Show: Brings up the Assist window

-Show Pull Setup: Brings up the pull setup window allowing you to see who’s targeting who and fix targets as necessary

-Options: Brings up the window to add/remove main/aux tanks (You can also do this by right clicking on their name in the raid panel)

Buffs:

-<Your Buff(s) Here>: This will create a window with the names of everybody that needs your buff, clicking on their name will buff them with the correct buff and remove them from the list. You can click on the title funnel in the upper right of this window to set filters (ie, show only warriors in groups 1-4 who need fortitude – it’s really customizable, scroll down for information on the filtering window)

-Watch…: Opens a menu to select the buffs you would like to look for. The top two buttons toggle allowing you to look for people who are missing any of the buffs, missing all of the buffs, have any of the buffs, or have all of the buffs. Selecting buffs from the list on the right adds them to the list of buffs to watch. You can create multiple buff windows with separate filters if you wish.

-Options: Brings up the configuration options for the buff windows, they are fairly straight-forward

Debuffs:

These options control the debuff window. The debuff window shows a list of people with debuffs (all debuffs, ones you can cure, or however you set it up) and clicking on them will cure them if possible.

-Encounter Options: Encounter specific options?

-Global Options: Universal options?

I don’t use this so I’m not an expert on it

Logistics:

This is where the leader functions are. These features allow an (A) or (L) to do ready checks/sync checks/item checks/etc. Specific functions are self-explanatory

Windows:

-New Window…: Brings up a box to name the window, then creates the window once you have named it. You can right click on the title of the window to bring up configuration options for it.

-<Your windows here>:

            -Show: Shows the window

-Clone…: Creates a copy of the window with a new name

            -Hide: Hides the window

Window Configuration

Right clicking on the title of a window typically brings up this configuration window:

Set Filter brings up the Filter Setup window (see below) and allows you to filter the people in that particular window.

Sorting is the order in which they appear in the window.

Display is what is displayed for each person, either in %, # they have, or # they are missing.

Layout controls the format in which the people in the window are displayed. Vertical is simply a list, grid of width x will display x # of people per row.

Limit size limits the number of people that will be displayed in that window.

Scale adjusts the visual size of the window – Note: You can only dock* windows of the same scale.

The special click actions allow you to assign a certain click to an action. Click on the box to select the action from a drop-down list.

*Windows will dock with each other if you bring them close together

Filter Configuration

This window allows you to create custom filters for windows.

If you select the Filter by class/group, any player you wish to display must meet the criteria of BOTH of the sub-categories (Groups/Classes). If I wish to show the warlocks in the raid, I have to select every group and then the warlock class. The mod reads it as “Only show the warlocks in groups 1-8”. The above setup is for my healer window, it shows only the druids, paladins, and priests in groups 1-8. (In the windows config option I have it set to show their MP % and sort by MP %, this allows me to see healer status at a glance.

Note: The dead players filter is not very responsive, instead you should use the HP filter and filter people with 0 HP.

Live-Update System

This is one of the coolest things about RDX. It allows you to download patches and future versions of RDX in-game without having to re-download it from the site. For example: Say we are fighting the first boss of Naxxramas and figure we need a mod that does such and such. While running back/rezzing/rebuffing/whatever I could write the mod then send it to everyone in the raid via the RDX comm. channel and everyone would have the new mod installed to their UI for the next attempt. When an update has been sent, you will get a popup box that looks like this:

As it says, pressing ok will accept the update and cancel will disregard it. The point of it asking at all is to allow anyone to send updates (rather than just me) without providing a backdoor to your UI. Make sure you know who is sending it to you before accepting it; it will likely never be a problem, but you wouldn’t want to accept an update from a random person that doesn’t know what they are doing or has reason to screw with you :p

Contact me directly if you are interested in creating/sending the updates yourself. It is a powerful tool and requires some lua know-how to use it correctly.
